Softball Hitting Training for Ashburn, VA Players
In Ashburn, Softball Runs on Its Own Track
Dulles Little League is Ashburn's baseball league, despite the name. Ages 4 to 16, chartered in Virginia District 16, and baseball only. There is no softball inside it. Girls softball in Ashburn runs through the Ashburn Girls Softball League, divisions 4U through 14U, a member of the Loudoun County Softball Alliance.
Two organizations. Two registration cycles. Two sets of fields, two sets of emails, two board meetings you will never attend. If you have a son and a daughter both playing, you are managing all of it in parallel, and the calendar is the part nobody warns you about.
BTD coaches both sports under one roof in Manassas. That is worth saying out loud, because for an Ashburn family it can turn two separate development plans into one trip. Coming from the travel side, we also see Loudoun Inferno Girls Fastpitch players who practice at Hanson Park and want individual cage work between team sessions.
What Softball Hitting Training Is Here
A fastpitch pitch is not a baseball pitch scaled down. It comes from 43 feet, released underhand near the ground, and it is climbing when it reaches her. The reaction window is shorter than a baseball hitter's even though the radar number is lower, and the attack angle that works against a rising pitch is not the one that works against a downhill one. A softball bat loads and moves differently too.
So the work is specific. We build an approach that gets the barrel into the zone early and keeps it on plane through a ball that is coming up, not down. HitTrax sets a baseline on the first visit and tracks exit velocity, launch angle and spray chart from there. A Blast Motion bat sensor on the knob reads bat speed, attack angle, time to impact and rotation, which is where most rise ball trouble shows up. Win Reality adds pitch recognition reps, including the change and the drop that Loudoun pitchers start throwing well by 12U.
Sessions run one hour with Alonso Ruz Vera or Coach Raul Rodriguez. The full drill progression is on the softball hitting training program page rather than repeated here.
The Drive, Told Straight
Ashburn is about 23 to 24 miles from Robertson Drive, straight south on Route 28. That is 35 to 40 minutes on a clear road and closer to 45 between 4:30 and 6:30 on a weekday. Route 28 is the bottleneck, and there is no shortcut around it.
It is the longest Loudoun drive we ask families to make. BTD trains athletes from Ashburn at our facility in Manassas and nowhere else. Most Ashburn softball families book Saturday mornings, when the same trip runs about 30 minutes.
Ashburn Softball Hitting Questions
Is the drive from Ashburn worth it?
Only you can answer that, so here is the honest number: 35 to 40 minutes each way, up to 45 in rush hour. Families who make it work usually book one weekend session a week instead of two weeknight ones.
Can my son and daughter train on the same trip?
Yes. Baseball and softball are coached in the same building, so back to back one hour sessions are common for Ashburn families running two schedules.
My daughter plays AGSL, not travel. Is BTD only for travel players?
No. We train rec, school and travel athletes starting at age 8. AGSL divisions from 8U up are a normal starting point.
How is this different from her baseball brother's hitting lessons?
Different pitch distance, different plane, different bat. Forty-three feet on a rise against sixty feet six inches downhill. We do not run one swing model for both sports.
When should she start before spring?
Winter. Ten to twelve weeks ahead of AGSL evaluations or a high school tryout at Independence, Briar Woods, Stone Bridge, Broad Run or Rock Ridge gives a swing change time to hold up live.
