WHY WOODBRIDGE FAMILIES COME UP

THE FIRST TRIP COSTS YOU THE GAS.

The first consultation is free. You leave with your athlete's actual exit velocity, launch angle and swing numbers, and you decide from there whether a 35 to 45 minute drive is worth repeating.

OUR PROCESS

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 1

THE FIRST SESSION

Your athlete hits, throws and moves while we take a baseline, HitTrax numbers included. You get a straight read on where they are before anyone changes anything.

STEP 2

THE PLAN

From that baseline we pick what the first four weeks should focus on, one correction at a time, built around your athlete instead of a template every kid gets handed.

STEP 3

TRACKED PROGRESS

Every session after is measured against that first one. Sessions are one hour, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo in the first four weeks.

Woodbridge, Lake Ridge, Dale City and Montclair Are Not One Place

Anyone who lives here knows these are four communities with four different weeknight routines, and copy that says Woodbridge while describing Lake Ridge reads like an outsider wrote it. So we will be specific.

Woodbridge High School, the Vikings, is at 3001 Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge. Forest Park, the Bruins, is at 15721 Forest Park Drive in Montclair. C.D. Hylton, the Bulldogs, is at 14051 Spriggs Road in Dale City. Gar-Field, the Red Wolves, is on Smoketown Road, and Freedom, the Eagles, is at 15201 Neabsco Mills Road, a different school from Freedom High School in South Riding. All five play in the Cardinal District, Class 6. Potomac High School in Dumfries, the Panthers, catches the southern edge.

The middle schools feeding them are Woodbridge, Rippon, Fred M. Lynn, George M. Hampton, Beville and Lake Ridge. That is a lot of programs competing for the same varsity spots, which is why getting seen in a Cardinal District tryout is a numbers problem before it is a talent problem.

Where Woodbridge kids play

Rec baseball splits by community, the same way everything else here does. Woodbridge Little League plays in Virginia District 9 out of the Vets diamonds at Veterans Memorial Park on Veterans Drive. Dale City Little League is also District 9, at Turley Fields on Birchdale Avenue. Those are two leagues, two complexes and two sets of weeknights.

On the softball side, Prince William Girls Fastpitch Softball is based at Andrew Leitch Park on Dale Boulevard. Virginia Crushers Fastpitch is the Woodbridge based select travel organization focused on college placement, and their athletes carry a heavier year-round load than a rec player does.

Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium was home to the Potomac Nationals from 1984 until the franchise moved to Fredericksburg in 2019. The ballpark is still standing, and a generation of kids here learned the game in those stands.

Training around the calendar

Spring belongs to the school teams and to the rec leagues, so in season most families come once a week and keep the work narrow. Fall ball and the winter weeks before tryouts are when athletes take on more, because that is when there is room to change something and let it settle. Sessions stay one hour either way, and the first consultation is free.

Weekend mornings are the easier trip from down here, so a lot of Woodbridge families start with a weekend slot and move to a weeknight once they know the route.

How sessions run

Sessions are one hour and coach led, by owner and head coach Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez. Alonso played four years of college baseball and holds a Master's in Exercise Science and Nutrition. Raul played at a high level in Venezuela and Mexico. Between them, 10+ years of coaching and 500+ athletes trained. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball, and 25 or more have gone on to play in college.

Softball is coached as its own sport here, not borrowed from the baseball version. A shorter reaction window, a ball arriving flat or climbing from 43 feet, and the shoulder volume a fastpitch athlete carries. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. BTD supplies everything else, and parents are welcome to watch.

HitTrax sets the baseline on the first visit, exit velocity, launch angle, distance and spray charts, and every session after is measured against it. Blast Motion sits on the bat knob and reads bat speed, attack angle, time to impact and on-plane efficiency. Win Reality puts your athlete in VR against pitch sequences they would not see live for years.

Programs

Baseball Hitting Training

Contact quality against a pitch coming downhill from 60 feet 6 inches, tracked from the first swing. See baseball hitting training.

Softball Hitting Training

The ball arrives from 43 feet on an upward plane, so attack angle and approach change. See softball hitting training.

Baseball Fielding Training

Longer throws, more ground to cover, and footwork that changes by position. See baseball fielding training.

Softball Fielding Training

Shorter base paths take reaction time away, and slap hitters move the defense around. See softball fielding training.

Baseball Strength and Conditioning

Rotational power, arm care, and movement that holds up across a full spring. See baseball strength and conditioning.

Softball Strength and Conditioning

The same rotational base, adjusted for fastpitch shoulder volume. See softball strength and conditioning.

Getting here

This is the longest drive we ask anybody to make, and we are not going to round it down. There is one BTD facility, on Robertson Drive in Manassas. On paper it is about 16 miles up Prince William Parkway. In practice the building sits on the far northwest side of Manassas, so on a weekday evening the trip is realistically 35 to 45 minutes. A parent surprised by a 40 minute drive does not come back for a second session.

Prince William Parkway is the straight shot from Lake Ridge, Dale City or Route 1 in Woodbridge proper. Take it northwest toward Manassas, then in on Wellington Road to Robertson Drive near Manassas Regional Airport. Give yourself the full 45 minutes if you are leaving between 4:30 and 6:00.
