The Ashburn Diamond Landscape

Independence High School was the 2026 VHSL Class 6 state runner-up in baseball, losing the final 6 to 3 to Battlefield. The Tigers went 22 and 4 in region play and shut out Western Branch 6 to 0 in the state semifinal to get there.

Here is the part Ashburn parents already live with. Independence competes in the Cedar Run District, so Loudoun's newest high school buses into Prince William County to play Battlefield, Gainesville, Patriot, Osbourn and Osbourn Park. If your athlete is a Tiger, you already drive this direction on district nights. The competition is down here. So is the training.

Ashburn athletes spread across five high schools. Independence on Learning Circle in the Cedar Run District. Briar Woods on Belmont Ridge Road and Stone Bridge on Hay Road in the Potomac District. Broad Run on Ashburn Road and Rock Ridge on Loudoun Reserve Drive in the Dulles District. The feeders matter just as much, because that is where we usually meet an athlete: Farmwell Station into Broad Run, Trailside into Stone Bridge, Eagle Ridge into Briar Woods, Watson Mountain into Independence, plus Brambleton and Stone Hill.

Two organizations, two registrations

On the rec side, Dulles Little League is Ashburn's baseball league despite the name. Ages 4 to 16, chartered in Virginia District 16, and it runs baseball only. There is no softball under that roof. Girls play in the Ashburn Girls Softball League, 4U through 14U, a member of the Loudoun County Softball Alliance.

That split is structural, not a scheduling accident. Two organizations, two registration cycles, two sets of fields. A family with a son and a daughter deals with both every spring, and you know what that costs you in Saturdays.

Dulles Little League also has no single home complex. Play runs across roughly 20 small neighborhood and school diamonds. Weeknights land at Trailside Park, Edgar Tillett Park and Greg Crittenden Memorial Park, and tournament weekends usually mean the seven diamonds at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park in Leesburg.

On the travel side, Ashburn Rebels Travel Baseball plays in the NVTBL, and Loudoun Inferno Girls Fastpitch practices at Hanson Park. Cage work here gets scheduled around those seasons, not stacked on top of them.

Training around the calendar

Spring belongs to the school teams and to the rec leagues, so in season most Ashburn families come once a week and keep the work narrow. Fall ball and the winter weeks before tryouts are when athletes take on more, because that is when there is room to change something and let it settle. Sessions stay one hour either way, and the first consultation is free.

How sessions run

Sessions are one hour and coach led, by owner and head coach Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez. Alonso played four years of college baseball and holds a Master's in Exercise Science and Nutrition. Raul played at a high level in Venezuela and Mexico. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and competitive travel ball. More than 500 athletes have trained here, and 25 or more have gone on to play in college.

Both sports are coached in this one building by the same two coaches, which is the practical reason Ashburn families call. A son and a daughter can go back to back on one trip. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. BTD supplies everything else, and parents are welcome to watch.

Getting here

There is one BTD facility, on Robertson Drive in Manassas, about 23 to 24 miles south of Ashburn and roughly 35 to 40 minutes down Route 28. Route 28 is the choke point, so plan closer to 45 at rush hour. It is the longest drive of any Loudoun market we serve, and we would rather you hear that from us now than find out on a Tuesday.

Route 28 south nearly the whole way. Pick it up near Waxpool or Church Road, stay south past Dulles and Centreville, and follow it into Manassas, where it runs as Nokesville Road. Then over to the Wellington Road corridor and Robertson Drive, near Manassas Regional Airport.
