Baseball and Softball Training for Burke Athletes

WHY BURKE FAMILIES DRIVE HERE

THE CLOCK RUNS EARLIER HERE.

Most Northern Virginia kids get three years of middle school before a high school coach sees them swing. In Burke that buffer does not exist, so the useful window is 11, 12 and 13.

OUR PROCESS

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 1

THE FIRST SESSION

Your athlete hits, throws and moves while we take a baseline on HitTrax. You get a straight read on where a seventh grader actually stands right now, not a guess.

STEP 2

THE PLAN

From that baseline we choose what the first four weeks should focus on, one correction at a time, built around your athlete and the rec or travel calendar you are already on.

STEP 3

TRACKED PROGRESS

Every session after is measured against the first. Sessions are one hour, and athletes typically gain 3 to 5 MPH of exit velocity within the first four weeks.

The Burke Baseball and Softball Landscape

Burke is the longest of the Fairfax County drives we serve, and the reason families make it is timing rather than distance. Here is what that means on the ground.

Most Burke kids never attend a standalone middle school

Lake Braddock Secondary on Burke Lake Road and Robinson Secondary on Sideburn Road are both grades 7 through 12. A seventh grader walks into the same building as the varsity program, and the coaches watch from that first fall. West Springfield High School picks up the southeast edge. Burke parents think about the varsity roster years earlier than families two pyramids over, and they are right to. That is the whole argument for starting at 11, 12 or 13 instead of 15.

Lake Braddock is the credential

The Bruins won VHSL state baseball championships in 2012 and 2019, both at 26 and 3. The 2019 title came 6 to 2 over Westfield in the Class 6 final and was recognized by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Lake Braddock softball went 16 and 7 in 2025. A Patriot District roster spot is not handed out, and the kids competing for one started in seventh grade.

Rec ball is fragmented, and every parent here knows it

Depending on which side of a boundary line your house sits on, your athlete registers with Braddock Road Youth Club, West Springfield Little League, Central Springfield Little League or Fairfax Little League. West Springfield Little League's Fenway complex is physically in Burke, at Burke School, 9645 Burke Lake Road, which does not make the map any easier to read. Two neighbors can land in different leagues on different calendars.

Softball and travel

BRYC Softball is the main softball option, about 300 players drawing from greater Burke, Annandale and Springfield. The Northern Virginia Girls Softball Association plays at Lake Braddock. For travel baseball, the Burke Bulldogs are the recognizable local brand, a nonprofit running 8U through 14U.

Games and practices land at Lake Braddock Secondary, Fenway at Burke School, Robinson Secondary, Rutherford Park, Kings Park Park, Wakefield Park and South Run Park. Field time is spread thin across a lot of small sites, which is exactly why an uninterrupted hour of individual reps is hard to come by.

How sessions run

Sessions are one hour and run by the coaches who run every session, with more than 10 years of combined coaching experience. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball. More than 500 have trained here, and 25 and counting have gone on to play college ball. The first consultation is free. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. We supply the rest, and parents are welcome to stay and watch.

The first session sets the baseline and every one after is measured against it, so progress is on a screen and not in an opinion. HitTrax tracks exit velocity, launch angle, distance and spray charts. Blast Motion sits on the bat knob and reads bat speed and attack angle. Win Reality puts your athlete in VR against pitch sequences they would not see live for years.

Getting Here

About 15 miles and 26 to 30 minutes, and it can reach 40 if you leave Burke at 5 p.m. on a weekday. We would rather say that than have you find out on a Tuesday in February. Most families here book a weekend or a later weeknight.

Take Fairfax County Parkway west to Prince William Parkway, then in on Wellington Road to Robertson Drive. VRE also runs Burke Centre to Manassas in about 27 minutes, so an older athlete can get most of the way here without a parent in the car. There is one BTD facility and this is it.
