Baseball and Softball Training for Centreville Athletes

WHY CENTREVILLE FAMILIES DRIVE HERE

THE REPS ARE THE REASON.

Centreville is the closest Fairfax County community to our cages, about 15 to 20 minutes straight down Route 28. SYA gives your athlete games and teammates. It rarely gives them an uninterrupted hour.

OUR PROCESS

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 1

THE FIRST SESSION

Your athlete hits, throws and moves while we take a baseline on HitTrax. You get a straight read on where they actually are before anyone changes a thing.

STEP 2

THE PLAN

From that baseline we pick what the first four weeks should focus on, one correction at a time, built around your athlete and the SYA or school schedule already on the calendar.

STEP 3

TRACKED PROGRESS

Every session after is measured against the first one. Sessions are one hour, and athletes typically add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velocity within the first four weeks.

The Centreville Diamond Landscape

Almost every Centreville diamond athlete comes through one organization. Southwestern Youth Association, run out of 5950 Centreville Crest Lane, serves more than 13,000 children and 5,000 families across southwestern Fairfax County. SYA Little League Baseball covers ages 4 to 12, SYA Babe Ruth Baseball picks it up from 13 to 18, and SYA Little League Softball runs 7 to 16. On the travel side, the Mets field teams from 8U to 13U and the Xplosion run 9 to 18.

Where Centreville kids play

Most of it happens at SYA Sports Park, 6630 Bull Run Post Office Road, about 120 acres that opened in 2006 and that everyone here calls the Field of Dreams. The rest spills onto Liberty Middle, Stone Middle, and the Cub Run, Virginia Run and Union Mill fields, plus Ellanor C. Lawrence Park on Route 28.

The high school picture is split

Centreville High School sits at 6001 Union Mill Road with a Clifton mailing address that confuses newcomers. It opened in 1988, carries about 2,700 students, and feeds entirely from Liberty Middle. Its baseball team reached the 2026 VHSL Class 6 state quarterfinals, where the draw was Battlefield, the eventual state champion.

Westfield High School on Stonecroft Boulevard takes the Sully Station and Virginia Run side and pulls from Stone Middle. Westfield baseball was state runner-up in 2004 and lost the 2019 Class 6 final to Lake Braddock. Chantilly High School catches the edges. All three sit in the Concorde District, Class 6 Region D, which is a hard place to be a fringe roster player.

The honest reason parents call

A rec ladder this large is a good thing. It is also the reason individual reps are scarce. A huge, well run system gives an athlete games and teammates. It rarely gives them an uninterrupted hour with a coach watching one swing at a time. For a family off Union Mill Road, Braddock Road or Stone Road, an hour here is often a shorter trip than the weeknight travel practice already on the calendar.

How sessions run

Sessions are one hour and coach led, by owner and head coach Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez, not rented cage time. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and competitive travel ball. More than 500 athletes have trained here, and 25 and counting have gone on to play in college. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. BTD supplies everything else, and parents are welcome to stay and watch.

HitTrax tracks exit velocity, launch angle, distance and spray charts, and the first session sets the baseline every session after is measured against. Blast Motion sits on the bat knob and reads bat speed, attack angle and time to impact. Win Reality puts your athlete in VR against pitch sequences they would not see live for years. The first consultation is free.

Programs

Baseball Hitting Training

Bat path and timing against downhill velocity, with exit velo tracked from the first swing. See baseball hitting training.

Softball Hitting Training

The pitch rises from 43 feet, so attack angle and approach are built differently. See softball hitting training.

Baseball Fielding Training

Range, footwork through the ball, and the longer throws the position demands. See baseball fielding training.

Softball Fielding Training

Less reaction time on short base paths, and positioning against slap hitters. See softball fielding training.

Baseball Strength and Conditioning

Rotational power and the shoulder work that holds up through spring. See baseball strength and conditioning.

Softball Strength and Conditioning

Same base, different volume and different shoulder demands. See softball strength and conditioning.

Getting Here

About 7 to 9 miles, roughly 15 to 20 minutes on Route 28. Centreville sits almost exactly between Fairfax City and Manassas, which is why it is the closest Fairfax County market to the facility. Take Route 28 south past Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, over Bull Run into Prince William County, and stay on 28 to Wellington Road. Follow Wellington toward the Manassas Regional Airport side, then turn onto Robertson Drive.

No beltway, no I-66 merge, no tolls. It is one road the whole way, and that matters in October when it is dark at six. A 5:30 weekday departure can add ten minutes at the Route 29 light. There is one BTD facility and this is it.
