Baseball and Softball Training for South Riding, VA Athletes
WHY SOUTH RIDING FAMILIES TRAIN HERE
ONE LEAGUE, BOTH SPORTS. SO ARE WE.
The South Riding HOA gives you pools, tot lots and trails, but no diamonds. Baseball and softball have always meant leaving the neighborhood. Loudoun South runs both sports under one roof. So do we.

OUR PROCESS
HOW IT WORKS
STEP 1
THE FIRST SESSION
Your athlete hits, throws and moves while we take a baseline, HitTrax numbers included. You get a straight read on where they are before anyone changes anything.
STEP 2
THE PLAN
From that baseline we pick what the first four weeks should focus on, one correction at a time, built around your athlete instead of a template every kid gets handed.
STEP 3
TRACKED PROGRESS
Every session after is measured against that first one. Sessions are one hour, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo in the first four weeks.

A Community That Has Already Been to Williamsport
Loudoun South Little League won the 2019 Southeast Region championship and played in the 2019 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport. They went 4 and 0 in the Southeast Regional, then 2 and 2 in Williamsport, including an 11 to 0 win over the Midwest on a combined no-hitter. That remains their only Williamsport appearance. A 12U team won a state championship again in 2022 and reached the Southeast Regional.
The softball side has its own proof. Lightridge High School in Aldie was the 2026 VHSL Class 5 state runner-up, losing 2 to 1 to Matoaca on a walk-off on June 13, 2026. The Lightning were 24 and 1 in region play and had won 24 straight going in. Ace Peyton Robinson, a Georgia Tech commit, struck out nine and held Matoaca scoreless through six.
One organization, both sports
Loudoun South Little League is chartered in Virginia District 16 and covers Aldie, South Riding and Brambleton. In fall 2023 it launched its own girls softball program, created to fill the gap after Loudoun Girls Little League Softball dissolved. So unlike Ashburn, where the two sports run through separate organizations, baseball and softball here go through one league and one registration.
BTD is built the same way. Both sports are coached in one building by the same two coaches, a clean fit for a family with a son and a daughter. This is also the most kid-dense community we serve, 27.5% under 18, so fields fill fast and roster spots get tight early.
The schools
Freedom High School on Riding Center Drive is South Riding's own, opened in 2005, Potomac District, Class 5 Region D. It is a different school from Freedom High School in Woodbridge, and locals specify. Lightridge and John Champe in Aldie both pull from this area, and St. Paul VI Catholic High School is here in South Riding.
The middle schools tell you where an athlete is headed. J. Michael Lunsford feeds Freedom, Mercer feeds John Champe, Willard feeds Lightridge. Most families find us the year before tryouts start to feel real.
Where South Riding kids play
Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park in Aldie is the current hub. 257 acres, opened in 2022, four diamond fields, with games also at Byrne's Ridge, Tillett, Lyndora and Brambleton Park. Longtime families still talk about Lions Field on Route 50 and the left field wall everybody called the Green Monster. That property sold in December 2022 and the league played a final season there in 2023 before moving to Hanson and other sites.
On the travel side, the Loudoun South Eagles Baseball Club runs 8U through 14U in the NVTBL and grew out of the Little League program. Cage work gets scheduled around those seasons. In season most families come once a week and keep the work narrow. Fall ball and the winter weeks before tryouts are when athletes take on more, because that is when there is room to change something and let it settle.
How sessions run
Sessions are one hour and coach led, by owner Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez. Alonso played four years of college baseball and holds a Master's in Exercise Science and Nutrition. Raul played at a high level in Venezuela and Mexico. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball. More than 500 athletes have trained here, and 25 or more have gone on to play in college. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. BTD supplies everything else, and parents are welcome to watch.
HitTrax sets the baseline on the first visit, exit velocity, launch angle, distance and spray charts, and every session after is measured against it. Blast Motion sits on the bat knob and reads bat speed, attack angle, time to impact and on-plane efficiency. Win Reality puts your athlete in VR against pitch sequences they would not see live for years.
Programs
Baseball Hitting Training
Contact quality against a pitch coming downhill from 60 feet 6 inches, tracked from the first swing. See baseball hitting training.
Softball Hitting Training
The ball arrives from 43 feet on an upward plane, so attack angle, approach and bat all change. See softball hitting training.
Baseball Fielding Training
Longer throws, more ground to cover, and footwork that changes by position. See baseball fielding training.
Softball Fielding Training
Shorter base paths take reaction time away, and slap hitters move the defense around. See softball fielding training.
Baseball Strength and Conditioning
Rotational power, arm care, and movement that holds up across a full spring. See baseball strength and conditioning.
Softball Strength and Conditioning
The same rotational base, adjusted for fastpitch shoulder volume. See softball strength and conditioning.
Getting here
There is one BTD facility, on Robertson Drive in Manassas, about 15 miles from South Riding and roughly 20 to 30 minutes depending on the hour. That is eight to nine miles closer than the Ashburn drive, but it is still a drive.
Route 50 east to Route 28 south, then into Manassas where Route 28 runs as Nokesville Road, and over to Wellington Road and Robertson Drive near Manassas Regional Airport. Braddock Road to Pleasant Valley Road south works when Route 50 is backed up.

Both, by the same staff. Softball hitting, fielding and strength are coached to the sport, not borrowed from the baseball version.

Six to eight weeks out, so a change has time to hold when your athlete is nervous and being watched. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball.
-
Yes. We train Loudoun athletes alongside Prince William County players, and 25+ athletes we have worked with have gone on to play in college. Every inquiry gets an answer within 24 hours.
