HOW IT WORKS
STEP 1
SET THE SOFTBALL BASELINE
Her first session sets a baseline on HitTrax, and we set it as a softball baseline. Exit velocity, launch angle, distance, and spray charts get read against fastpitch targets, not baseball ones.
STEP 2
BUILD THE FASTPITCH SWING
A fastpitch hitter matches a ball that is flat or climbing, so her attack angle target sits flatter. Blast Motion reports bat speed, attack angle, time to impact, and on-plane efficiency.
STEP 3
TRAIN THE READ
Win Reality puts her in VR against pitch sequencing and two-strike counts. She banks reps against fastpitch spin she would not otherwise face live for years, and she learns to commit earlier.

The pitch comes from 43 feet, and it comes up
Your daughter steps in against a pitcher 43 feet away who releases the ball below her hip and drives it upward. That is a different problem than a baseball hitter solves, and it deserves its own training. Beyond The Diamond Performance trains fastpitch hitters at our facility on Robertson Drive in Manassas. Every hitter gets a softball baseline and a softball plan. We do not hand a fastpitch hitter a baseball report and ask her to sort out which parts apply.
The short distance changes three things about her at-bat.
The plane
A baseball hitter matches a ball falling downhill. A fastpitch hitter never does. Coaching her to swing up the way a baseball hitter is taught to is how a bat ends up running under the ball, and that one cue, borrowed from the wrong sport, explains a lot of pop-ups.
The timing
There is no room to recognize spin, then decide, then load. Recognition and load have to overlap. A hitter who waits to be sure is already late, so the work is to commit earlier without guessing.
The spin
A rise finishes above where the eye expects. A drop dives late. A screw runs in on the hands. A change is a gear shift at the same arm speed. Reading that out of a windmill circle is its own skill, and it is not something a hitter picks up by taking more swings off a machine.
Her bat is different too. The fastpitch barrel is longer relative to the bat's length and the balance point sits elsewhere, so two bats that both read 32 inches and 22 ounces can swing like different tools. We check her bat before we change her swing.
What the numbers mean for a fastpitch hitter
Every session after her first is tracked against that opening baseline, so progress is something you can see instead of something a coach tells you.

An exit velo that is average for a 14-year-old baseball player means something different for a fastpitch hitter, and her target reflects that. That is the whole reason we set the baseline as a softball baseline. Our hitters average a 3 to 5 MPH exit velocity increase within the first four weeks. Here is how HitTrax tracking works.
Blast Motion
The sensor mounts on her bat knob and reports peak hand speed and rotation alongside the swing numbers. Time to impact carries extra weight in fastpitch, because a shorter path buys back a beat to read spin inside that 43-foot window. Win Reality
Win Reality is pitch recognition in VR. She sees sequencing and counts there years before she would see them live. For a hitter who has never seen a real rise ball, that beats learning it mid-game with a count on her.
Who coaches her, and where
Sessions are one hour and coach-led. Bring a bat, glove, and cleats. We supply everything else. Parents are welcome to watch.

Lightridge in Aldie, which serves South Riding, was the 2026 VHSL Class 5 state softball runner-up behind Georgia Tech commit Peyton Robinson. That is the level she is hitting into. We train girls from Manassas, Gainesville, Haymarket, Centreville, and South Riding at one facility on Robertson Drive, and there is no second location. Coach Raul Rodriguez is a baseball and softball specialist, and BTD is a baseball and softball academy, not a baseball academy that accepts softball players. Her baseline is set against softball, her attack angle target is set for a ball arriving upward from 43 feet, and her recognition work uses fastpitch spin. If a coach ever gives her a cue that only fits a downhill pitch, tell us.

Athletes start at 8 and train through high school and travel ball. From 8 to 10 the work is mostly movement and confidence in the box. The technology comes in once the numbers mean something.

Usually, and it is rarely solved by telling her to swing down. A pop-up on a rise is often an uphill path through a climbing ball plus a late decision. We check attack angle and time to impact first, then work recognition so she commits earlier.
