WHY MANASSAS FAMILIES TRAIN HERE

BTD IS NOT DRIVING IN. BTD IS HERE.

Every other city we serve gets here on a highway. Manassas families get here on the way home. An hour on a Tuesday between homework and dinner is realistic, which is why athletes here stay on schedule in season.

OUR PROCESS

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 1

THE FIRST SESSION

Your athlete hits, throws and moves while we take a baseline, HitTrax numbers included. You get a straight read on where they are before anyone changes anything.

STEP 2

THE PLAN

From that baseline we pick what the first four weeks should focus on, one correction at a time, built around your athlete instead of a template every kid gets handed.

STEP 3

TRACKED PROGRESS

Every session after is measured against that first one. Sessions are one hour, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo in the first four weeks.

The Manassas Diamond Landscape

Hundreds of families across Manassas, Gainesville, Haymarket and Prince William County train with BTD, and this city is where it started.

Three school systems share a Manassas address, and locals know the difference. Osbourn High School is Manassas City, Class 6, Cedar Run District. Manassas Park High School is its own division, Class 3, Northwestern District. Prince William County covers Osbourn Park, Unity Reed and Colgan. Osbourn and Osbourn Park are two different schools, and we treat them that way.

We see athletes coming out of Metz, Parkside, Unity Braxton, Benton, Saunders and Manassas Park middle schools, usually the year before tryouts start to feel real.

Where Manassas kids play

Most of them play in the Greater Manassas Baseball & Softball League. GMBL is Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth chartered, runs around 900 players a year, and has been at the same complex since 1981. Games are at the E.G. Smith Baseball Complex on Godwin Drive, six lighted diamonds. Softball runs 8U machine pitch through 18U. Weekends spill over to Dean Park, Byrd Park, Marsteller Park and Ben Lomond Regional Park.

On the travel side, the Manassas Cavalry is GMBL's in-house program and plays in the NVTBL. The Snyder Bucks and Prince William Cardinals pull from here too. Cage work here is scheduled around those seasons, not stacked on top of them.

One more piece of local history worth knowing: Julie Croteau, Osbourn Park class of 1988, was the first woman to play men's NCAA baseball.

Training around the calendar

Spring belongs to the school teams and to GMBL, so in season most families come once a week and keep the work narrow. Fall ball and the winter weeks before tryouts are when athletes take on more, because that is when there is room to change something and let it settle. Whichever stretch you are in, sessions stay one hour and the first consultation is free.

How sessions run

Sessions are one hour and coach led, by owner and head coach Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball. More than 500 athletes have trained here, and 25 or more have gone on to play in college. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. BTD supplies everything else, and parents are welcome to watch.

HitTrax tracks exit velocity, launch angle, distance and spray charts, and the first session sets the baseline every session after is measured against. Blast Motion sits on the bat knob and reads bat speed, attack angle, time to impact and on-plane efficiency. Win Reality puts your athlete in VR against pitch sequences they would not see live for years.

Programs

Baseball Hitting Training

HitTrax tracks exit velocity, launch angle and spray charts from the first swing, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo in the first four weeks. See baseball hitting training.

Softball Hitting Training

The ball arrives from 43 feet on an upward plane, not downhill from 60 feet 6 inches, so the swing gets built for that instead of borrowed from baseball. See softball hitting training.

Baseball Fielding Training

Longer throws, more ground to cover, and footwork that changes by position. See baseball fielding training.

Softball Fielding Training

Shorter base paths take reaction time away, and slap hitters move the infield around. See softball fielding training.

Baseball Strength and Conditioning

Rotational power, arm care, and movement that holds up across a full spring. See baseball strength and conditioning.

Softball Strength and Conditioning

The same rotational base with different volume and shoulder demands. See softball strength and conditioning.

Getting Here

Robertson Drive sits off Wellington Road on the northwest side of the city, near Manassas Regional Airport. From almost anywhere in Manassas or Manassas Park that is an 8 to 12 minute drive, with no interstate and no leaving early to beat traffic. From the E.G. Smith complex, take Godwin Drive up to Wellington Road. Coming from Manassas Park, Prince William Parkway to Wellington Road is the clean way in.

There is one BTD facility and this is it. Athletes from Gainesville, Haymarket, Centreville, Fairfax, Burke, Ashburn, South Riding and Woodbridge drive to this same building, and Manassas families have the shortest trip of anyone on that list.
