WHY GAINESVILLE FAMILIES TRAIN HERE

GAINESVILLE ATHLETES TRAIN IN MANASSAS.

BTD trains athletes from Gainesville at our facility on Robertson Drive in Manassas, about 15 to 20 minutes down VA-234 Business. One facility, no satellite cage, on a road you already drive.

OUR PROCESS

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 1

THE BASELINE

Your athlete hits, throws and moves while we take a baseline, HitTrax numbers included. You leave the first session with a straight read on where they actually are.

STEP 2

THE PLAN

We pick what the first four weeks should focus on, one correction at a time, built from that baseline rather than from a template every kid gets handed.

STEP 3

TRACKED PROGRESS

Every session after is measured against the first one. Sessions are one hour, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo inside those four weeks.

Gainesville Is a Baseball Town Right Now

In June 2025, Gainesville High School won the VHSL Class 6 state baseball championship, beating Battlefield 8 to 6. It was the first state baseball title for Prince William County Public Schools in 30 years, and in the semifinal that team came back from down 7 to 0. The school opened in August 2021 and head coach John Miller's program is four years old.

That result changed what tryouts feel like here. Gainesville High runs about 2,590 students in the Cedar Run District, and Gainesville addresses also feed Patriot and Battlefield. A kid coming out of Gainesville Middle, Bull Run, Reagan or Marsteller is walking into real competition for a roster spot, and the ones who make it started preparing a year or two out.

Where Gainesville kids play

Rec ball runs through the Gainesville Haymarket Baseball League, Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth chartered, playing at Catharpin Park and James S. Long Regional Park, with GHBL Pride as the competitive arm. On the travel side, the Virginia Cannons are Gainesville based, 9U through 15U, using the Linton Hall School fields and the Gainesville High School field. The Prince William Cardinals are registered in Gainesville and train at the NOVA Sportsplex in Manassas, so the drive is familiar here.

Softball families have a different map

Softball is set up differently here. Gainesville does not have its own dedicated rec softball league, so softball players in this area generally go straight to travel ball or come into Manassas to train and play. That is just how the map is set up, and it is why softball families from Gainesville were some of the first to drive to BTD. Softball hitting, fielding and strength work run as their own programs here, not as baseball with a different ball.

How sessions run

Sessions are one hour and coach led, by owner and head coach Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball. More than 500 athletes have trained here, and 25 or more have gone on to play in college. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. BTD supplies everything else, and parents are welcome to watch.

HitTrax measures exit velocity, launch angle, distance and spray charts, and the first session sets the baseline every session after is measured against. Blast Motion sits on the bat knob and reads bat speed, attack angle, time to impact and on-plane efficiency. Win Reality adds VR pitch recognition against sequences your athlete would not see live for years.

In season, with GHBL games at Catharpin Park and Long Park and the Cedar Run District calendar running, most families train once a week and keep the work specific. Fall ball and the weeks before tryouts are when there is room to change something and let it settle.

Programs

Baseball Hitting Training

HitTrax measures exit velocity, launch angle and spray charts from the first swing, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo in the first four weeks. See baseball hitting training.

Softball Hitting Training

The pitch comes from 43 feet on a rise, not downhill from 60 feet 6 inches, so the reaction window, the attack angle and the bat are all different. See softball hitting training.

Baseball Fielding Training

Longer throws, more range to cover, and footwork that changes by position. See baseball fielding training.

Softball Fielding Training

Shorter base paths, less time to react, and slap hitters who move the infield. See softball fielding training.

Baseball Strength and Conditioning

Rotational power and arm care that hold up across a long spring. See baseball strength and conditioning.

Softball Strength and Conditioning

The same rotational base with different volume and shoulder demands. See softball strength and conditioning.

Getting Here

It is about 10 miles and roughly 15 to 20 minutes down VA-234 Business, closer to 20 on a weekday evening. Take VA-234 Business toward Manassas, stay on it past the Sudley Road stretch, then come across on Wellington Road to Robertson Drive. The facility sits near Manassas Regional Airport on the northwest side of the city, so you are not driving through the middle of Manassas to reach it.

It is the same road plenty of Gainesville families are already on for Manassas errands, so a one hour session does not eat the whole night. There is one BTD facility and this is it. More on training in Manassas and the coaches who run it.
