WHY HAYMARKET FAMILIES TRAIN HERE

HAYMARKET ATHLETES TRAIN IN MANASSAS.

BTD trains athletes from the Haymarket area at our facility on Robertson Drive in Manassas, about 19 minutes down Sudley Road. One facility, and it sits on a road your week already runs through.

OUR PROCESS

HOW IT WORKS

STEP 1

THE FIRST SESSION

Your athlete hits, throws and moves while we set a baseline, HitTrax numbers included. You get an honest read on where they stand before we change anything.

STEP 2

THE PLAN

That baseline decides what the first four weeks work on, one correction at a time, so your athlete is not handed the same plan as everyone else in the building.

STEP 3

TRACKED PROGRESS

Every session after is measured against that first one. Sessions run an hour, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo in those four weeks.

The 20169 Baseball and Softball Picture

The town itself is small, under a square mile, but the area it anchors holds about 28,300 people, and the diamond programs here are as strong as any in the state.

Battlefield High School on Graduation Drive won the VHSL Class 6 state baseball championship in 2026, beating Independence 6 to 3 on June 18. It was the first baseball state title in school history. Junior Luke Raflo hit a grand slam in the seventh. Head coach Jay Burkhart was in his 16th season, and the Bobcats had lost the 2025 final to Gainesville, so that one had been sitting a while.

Battlefield softball had its own 2026: Class 6 Region B runner-up and a trip to the state quarterfinals. Both programs are winning at once, which raises what a roster spot costs. Players coming up through Reagan and Bull Run middle schools are competing against kids who watched that standard from the stands, and the ones who make it started preparing a year or two out.

Where Haymarket kids play

Rec ball runs through the Gainesville Haymarket Baseball League, shared with Gainesville, Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth chartered. Home is James S. Long Regional Park on James Madison Highway, 230 acres with four diamonds and batting cages. Everyone here just calls it Long Park.

Softball families have a different map

Softball is structured differently. There is no dedicated rec softball league specific to this area, so most Haymarket softball players go the travel route or train in Manassas. That is why a lot of our softball athletes come from 20169, and it is why softball hitting, fielding and strength work run as their own programs here rather than as baseball with a different ball.

How sessions run

Sessions are one hour and coach led, by owner and head coach Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez. Athletes start at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball. More than 500 athletes have trained here, and 25 or more have gone on to play in college. Bring a bat, a glove and cleats. BTD supplies everything else, and parents are welcome to watch.

HitTrax reads exit velocity, launch angle, distance and spray charts, and the first session sets the baseline every session after is measured against. Blast Motion sits on the bat knob for bat speed, attack angle, time to impact and on-plane efficiency. Win Reality adds VR pitch recognition against sequences your athlete would not see live for years.

In season, with GHBL game nights at Long Park and the Cedar Run District calendar running, most families train once a week and keep the work narrow. Fall ball and the winter weeks before tryouts are when there is room to change something and let it settle.

Programs

Baseball Hitting Training

HitTrax reads exit velocity, launch angle and spray charts from the first swing, and most athletes add 3 to 5 MPH of exit velo in the first four weeks. See baseball hitting training.

Softball Hitting Training

The pitch comes from 43 feet on a rise, not downhill from 60 feet 6 inches, so the attack angle, the reaction window and the bat are all different. See softball hitting training.

Baseball Fielding Training

Longer throws, more range to cover, and footwork that changes by position. See baseball fielding training.

Softball Fielding Training

Shorter base paths, less reaction time, and slap hitters who move the infield. See softball fielding training.

Baseball Strength and Conditioning

Rotational power and arm care built to hold through a long spring. See baseball strength and conditioning.

Softball Strength and Conditioning

The same rotational base with different volume and shoulder demands. See softball strength and conditioning.

Getting Here

It is about 12 miles and roughly 19 minutes on VA-234 Business, the road you know as Sudley Road, and evening traffic can push that a few minutes. Take Sudley Road southeast toward Manassas, stay with it past I-66, then cut across on Wellington Road to Robertson Drive. The facility is near Manassas Regional Airport, on the Haymarket side of the city, so you are not crossing town at the end of the drive.

Sudley Road is already part of the week for most families here. You are on it for shopping and for I-66, so a one hour session on the way back is a different thing than a special trip. There is one BTD facility and this is it. More on training in Manassas and the coaches who run it.
