Baseball Hitting Training for South Riding, VA Players

South Riding still measures itself against 2019

In August 2019, Loudoun South Little League won the Southeast Region championship and went to the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport. They were 4 and 0 in the regional, then 2 and 2 in Williamsport, including an 11 to 0 win over the Midwest on a combined no-hitter. That remains the league's only trip to Williamsport, and it is still the reference point here.

It was not a one-time thing either. A 12U team won a state championship in 2022 and reached the Southeast Regional. The Loudoun South Eagles Baseball Club, running 8U through 14U, grew directly out of that same Little League program, so the ladder from rec to travel here is short and visible.

Which is a lot to carry when you are 11. The kids who watched in 2019 are old enough now to be expected to do it again, in a community that is 27.5% under 18, the most kid-dense we serve. Competition for at-bats here starts early.

What we work on

We do not coach hype. We coach the bat.

His first session sets a baseline on HitTrax: exit velocity, launch angle, distance, and a spray chart. From there every session gets tracked against that baseline, so you can see whether anything actually changed. Our hitters average a 3 to 5 MPH exit velocity increase within the first four weeks. Here is how HitTrax tracking works.

Blast Motion mounts on the knob of his bat and reports bat speed, attack angle, time to impact, and on-plane efficiency. Because a baseball arrives downhill from 60 feet 6 inches, we set his attack angle to match a falling plane rather than a flat one. Win Reality adds VR pitch recognition, where sequencing and a two-strike approach get built against pitching he would not otherwise see for years.

Sessions are one hour, coach-led, one athlete at a time, with owner and head coach Alonso Ruz Vera and Coach Raul Rodriguez. Parents watch. The full program is on our baseball hitting training program page.

The drive from South Riding

BTD trains athletes from South Riding at our facility on Robertson Drive in Manassas, roughly 20 to 30 minutes out, Route 50 east to Route 28 south, or Braddock Road and Pleasant Valley Road south to Route 28. We have one facility and it is in Manassas. South Riding is closer to us than Ashburn by about eight or nine miles, and families here are already used to leaving the neighborhood for ball. South Riding baseball hitting FAQ

He plays Loudoun South Little League. When in the year should he start?

Fall and winter are the productive months. Once the spring season starts, there is a game or a practice most days and no room to be temporarily worse while a swing change settles. Starting in October or November means the change is finished by the time it gets graded.

Is 20 to 30 minutes each way worth it for a one hour session?

Fair question, and we would rather give you the real number than have you surprised by it. What you get for the drive is a coach with him the entire hour, HitTrax and Blast numbers you can compare month over month, and a plan you can see.

He hits well in the cage and disappears in games. What is that?

Almost always recognition and timing rather than mechanics. A swing that works on a known pitch falls apart when the decision has to be made in a third of a second. That is exactly what the VR pitch recognition work is for.

Does he need to be on the Eagles or a travel team to train here?

No. Athletes start with us at age 8 and train through high school and travel ball, and plenty of them are rec players who want to be ready for a tryout. Over 500 athletes have trained here and 25+ have gone on to play in college.

What does he bring to the first session?

A bat, a glove, and cleats. We supply everything else.
